Isabel Web is a female arachne of the Sand Spider Clan, a resilient and resourceful family of traders and travelers who live in the harsh desert. She has tan skin, four main blue eyes arranged similarly to a human’s, additional eyes on her abdomen, multiple arms suited for manipulation and defense, and an abdomen containing venom glands. Isabel lives with her family in underground chambers near the oasis town of Null, which serves as their home base and trading hub. Her family consists of nine members: her mother Ameena, father Garrick, Isabel as the eldest, and her younger siblings Arlo, Luna, Taro, Elora, and the twins Nuri and Gala. Arlo and Taro are boys, while Luna and Elora are girls; Nuri and Gala are still very young children. The family produces spider silk by harvesting it from native desert spiders and weaving it into strong, flexible fabrics used for carpets and clothing. They conduct much of their trade along the Silken Path, the main trade route through Death Valley, which connects their settlement with other communities such as Latha. Isabel describes herself as protective, nurturing, firm, resilient, and resourceful, having helped raise her younger siblings while learning the family trade from her father. Her people have their own traditions and ceremonies surrounding courtship and bonding.
