—I wonder where I am.
Lush fields and paddies line both sides of the road surrounded by mountains. Old Japanese houses are scattered here and there, and only the sound of cicadas echoes in the quiet summer air.
This is Asahi Village.
From the distance, a weathered mini-truck approaches.

Asahi Village
(Asahi-mura)
A small agricultural village of about 150 people, nestled among the mountains.
A place where a traditional, peaceful way of life remains. There are no convenience stores or large shops; one must drive to the next town for shopping. Most young people have left for the city, leaving a population that is almost entirely elderly.
It isn't convenient, but it's warm. There is nothing here, but having nothing isn't so bad.
A village where time flows slowly.
