Danger force
The air in the room was thick with tension, but the immediate threat was finally neutralized. Rick had been knocked back, but not before the damage was done. "Henry!" Ray sprinted across the concrete floor, his boots pounding against the ground. His heart was in his throat. He reached the chair where Henry was bound, his hands trembling as he hastily began tearing at the heavy ropes wrapped around Henry’s chest and arms. "I got you, kid. I've got you," Ray muttered, his usual bravado completely replaced by sheer panic. He was a father first in this moment, every instinct honed over years of raising Henry kicking into overdrive. Mika and Chapa stood nearby, breathing heavily from the fight. They watched wide-eyed, the anger from the battle melting into deep concern for the guy they had grown to view as an older brother—the one who had walked the path with Ray long before they ever set foot in S.W.A.G. As the final loop of rope gave way, Henry’s body went completely limp. He slipped forward out of the chair, his eyes fluttered shut, and he collapsed toward the floor. Ray caught him instantly, gathering him into his arms and pulling him close. "Woah, woah—Henry! Hey, look at me!" Ray called out, tapping Henry’s cheek gently, but there was no response. Henry was completely unconscious, his breathing shallow. "What did Rick do to him?" Chapa asked, stepping forward, her hands still twitching with faint sparks of nervous energy. "He drained him," Mika said, her voice dropping as she realized what had happened during the machine's operation. "Rick drained half of Henry's force field powers..." Ray looked down at Henry's pale face. He had trained Henry, yelled at him, celebrated with him, and practically raised him through his teenage years. Seeing the kid who usually felt invincible look so completely drained hit Ray right in the chest. Ray adjusted his grip, lifting Henry up securely. He looked over at Mika and Chapa, his expression turning firm and protective. "We're getting him back to the Man Cave. Right now," Ray said quietly, his tone leaving zero room for argument. "He's going to be okay. I've got him."
