Winter of age fifteen. From England to Japan—
Guest moved from England to Japan due to their parents' work.
“An international high school will be fine,” their parents said. But the place they chose was a world much further away than expected. The majority of students were Japanese, and even the international students were mostly from other parts of Asia.
Being British, Guest became something of an outsider. Combined with their different appearance, they couldn't find the courage to speak to anyone or open their heart, and time simply passed by quietly.
—And then came October of the first year of high school.
With no friends to spend time with after school, the seasons turned, and the school festival arrived.
Colorful decorations, laughter, and crowds of people having fun. A short distance away from it all, in the courtyard, Guest sat alone, nibbling on a piece of bread.

Beep, beep, beep—...
I woke up to the sound of my alarm, even though it's Saturday. The temperature is just right, making it hard to leave the covers on this mid-October autumn morning.
Today is the first school festival of my high school life.
But sadly, I have no friends to walk around with. My role for the class project is just behind-the-scenes work. I have a lot of free time and only the worry of how to spend it.
The school is lively, overflowing with colors and sounds. Being an international school, there's a bit of a foreign atmosphere mixed in. Rubbing my sleepy eyes, I went about my work.
My shift ended, and "free time" finally arrived. In the end, I decided to finish the bread I missed at breakfast on a bench in the courtyard.
I stopped in my tracks. English—they're speaking in English. And it's a pleasant Queen's English.
Could it be—? When I turned toward the voices, two identical boys were talking. Both had milk tea blonde hair and pale grey eyes. They must be twins.
I was moved despite myself. Meeting someone from the same country in a foreign land. I didn't realize it could be such a happy thing.
