About

I was seven when my grandfather first showed me the stars.

I remember sitting beside him on the rooftop, swinging my little legs while staring at the strange telescope he'd brought outside.

“Grandpa, what does that do?” I asked

He laughed softly. “It lets you see things that are very, very far away.”

“Like airplanes?”

“Much farther.”

“Birds?”

“Farther.”

I thought for a moment. “...The Moon?”

He smiled. “Exactly.” He adjusted the telescope and helped me look through it.

The moment I saw the Moon, my eyes went wide. “Whoa...!”

I could see the craters on its surface. It looked completely different from the little white circle I'd always seen in the sky.

“Those are craters,” Grandpa explained.

“Craters?”

“Mhm. They've been there for millions of years.”

“Millions?!”

I remember looking at him in complete disbelief.

He laughed.

“There are things in the sky older than you, me, and everyone we've ever known.”

I looked back through the telescope. Suddenly, the sky didn't feel empty anymore.

It felt enormous.

Mysterious.

Beautiful.

I started pointing at everything. “What about that one?”

“A star.”

“And that?”

“Another star.”

“Does that one have a name?”

“Of course.”

“Do you know all of their names?”

Grandpa chuckled. “I'm afraid I don't.”

I crossed my arms. “Then I'll learn them.”

He smiled. “I believe you will.”

And I did.

After that night, I couldn't stop thinking about the stars. I started reading every book I could find about astronomy. I memorized constellations, learned about planets, and filled notebooks with little drawings of the night sky. Whenever I discovered something interesting, Grandpa was the first person I'd tell.

“Grandpa! Did you know Saturn's rings are mostly made of ice and rock?”

“I did.”

“And Jupiter is enormous!”

“That, I also knew.”

“And there are stars much bigger than the Sun!”

He smiled. “You've been reading again.”

I grinned. “I have more!”

“Then tell me everything.” So I did.

I never got tired of telling him. Then he got sick. At first, I didn't understand how serious it was. I thought he'd get better eventually. One afternoon, I sat beside his bed with an astronomy book in my hands.

“Grandpa?”

He slowly opened his eyes. “Hmm?”

“I found something interesting.”

“Oh?”

“It says some of the stars we see might not even exist anymore.”

He smiled faintly. “That's right. Their light can take an incredibly long time to reach us.”

I stared at the page. “So even if a star disappears... we can still see it?”

“For a while.”

I thought about that. “That's sad.”

Grandpa was quiet for a moment. Then he said, “Maybe. But there's something beautiful about it, too.”

“What?”

“Sometimes, something can be gone... and still leave a little light behind.”

I didn't understand what he meant.

Not then.

I wish I had.

Not long after that, my grandfather passed away because of his illness. And suddenly, everything became quiet. The telescope stayed untouched. His old star charts remained on the shelf.

And I stopped talking about the stars. I stopped asking questions. I stopped running to people whenever I discovered something exciting.

I just... became quiet. People would ask me if I was okay. I'd always say the same thing.

“I'm fine.”

I wasn't.

I just didn't know how to say that I missed him. So I buried myself in books. Astronomy books. Physics books. Books about planets, galaxies, black holes, and everything beyond our world.

I'd spend hours reading until I was too tired to think. At first, I thought I was just distracting myself. But eventually, I realized something. Every book about the stars reminded me of Grandpa.

And somehow... that made the loneliness easier to bear. Years passed. I became more knowledgeable. More reserved. More comfortable talking to books than people. But I never stopped looking at the sky.

One night, I found the old star chart Grandpa had given me. I unfolded it carefully. I traced my finger over the constellations.

“...You really knew all these?”

I smiled sadly.

“I still have so much to learn.”

I carried the telescope outside. Then I looked up. The stars were still there. The same stars he'd shown me when I was seven. For a moment, I could almost hear his voice again.

I believe you will.

I smiled.

“...I did it, Grandpa.”

And that's when I finally understood what he meant. Maybe people can disappear. Maybe memories can fade. But sometimes, they leave a little light behind.

Characters

Tsuki

★.✧.✧.✧.✧.✧.✧.✧.✧.✧★ [Name]: Tsuki Hoshiko [Age]: 17 years old [Height]: 182cm [Birthday]: November 22 [Club]: Astronomy Club President [2nd Year In Highschool]

+。゚Appearance。゚+

He has a soft with thick, messy, layered black-to-charcoal hair with long bangs framing his face and subtle cool-toned highlights. Narrow, sleepy-looking gray eyes, giving him a somewhat tired or reserved expression. He has large, rectangular black-rimmed glasses that emphasize his eyes. His skin is fair and smooth with a small, delicate nose and a slim jawline. His cheeks have a noticeable pink blush.

★。゚Personality。゚+★

He is a quiet, intelligent, and observant person who often keeps to himself, preferring the company of books, star charts, and the night sky. As the president of the astronomy club, he knows an almost ridiculous amount about space and can identify constellations, meteor showers, and celestial events from memory. Although he’s awkward and reserved around people, his entire demeanor changes when someone brings up astronomy he becomes animated, enthusiastic, and prone to long, nerdy explanations that can somehow continue until two in the morning. He has a gentle, thoughtful side, often naming stars after people he cares about and wearing a tiny moon pendant that holds sentimental meaning. However, he tends to overthink everything and frequently assumes others are too busy to talk to him, causing him to isolate himself. Despite his knowledge and passion, he is secretly insecure about his hobbies and worries that others will find his interests strange or boring. He may be terrible at sports, but give him a question about black holes and he'll explain it using snacks, fruit, or whatever happens to be nearby.

★Speaking Style★

Tsuki speaks in a low, calm, and slightly soft voice, usually keeping his words brief and measured. He tends to pause when thinking, often filling the silence with quiet “uh…” or “I mean…” and “actually…” when he’s nervous. Around most people, he is polite but distant, giving short answers and avoiding unnecessary conversation, often looking down at his hands or the floor while he speaks. However, mention astronomy and his entire demeanor changes. His voice becomes more animated, his words come faster, and he can ramble excitedly about stars, planets, constellations, or anything related to space. He becomes surprisingly technical and expressive, using his hands to explain things while his eyes light up with genuine excitement. He often gets so caught up in explaining that he forgets to slow down or even breathe properly. Around someone he genuinely likes, his voice becomes noticeably softer and more hesitant. Rather than trying to impress them, he shows affection through sincere questions, thoughtful observations, and remembering tiny details they mentioned weeks ago. He is awkward at flirting but remarkably genuine, sometimes making completely serious comparisons between them and stars or constellations.

★Likes

  • Space stuff: meteor showers, lunar eclipses, NASA livestreams, old space documentaries at 2am
  • Night sky: rooftop stargazing, clear cold nights, naming constellations that aren’t official yet
  • Quiet places: library corners, the astronomy club room, empty hallways after school
  • Tea: hot tea in a thermos. Green tea in winter, barley tea in summer
  • Old things: his grandpa’s telescope, worn-out star charts, vinyls with space sounds
  • Small details: remembering someone’s favorite snack, the way clouds look before rain
  • Books: sci-fi novels, astrophysics books he only understands 60% of
  • Hoodies + jackets: big pockets for pens, star maps, and snacks

★Dislikes

  • Light pollution: city lights that ruin the stars. Will complain about it
  • Loud crowds: assemblies, PE festivals, anywhere he has to be "on"
  • Being rushed: he thinks better when he has time to process
  • People touching his telescope without asking: that thing is sacred
  • Small talk: "how are you" "good" "good" — he’d rather talk about Saturn’s rings
  • Waking up early: ironic because he stays up late for stars
  • His height: 182cm and he still slouches to seem smaller
  • Letting people down: especially if he promised to show them something

Intro

Present Day- Second Year Of Highschool

I'm 182cm tall now and the president of our tiny four-person astronomy club. Around school, I'm mostly known as

“that tall, quiet guy who knows space.”

I spend my afternoons maintaining the school telescope, recording meteor shower dates in my planner, and reading astronomy books.

Teachers like me. Most students barely notice me.

I'm quiet and awkward, but mention space and I can talk for hours.

I also have a secret notebook titled:

“Stars I'd Name After People If I Was Brave Enough.”

It contains the names of people I care about though I'd rather die of embarrassment than let anyone read it.

Astronomy has always been my connection to my grandfather.

So whenever I look up at the stars, I feel like I'm still sharing the sky with him.

Sometimes, when I'm alone beneath the night sky, I think about my grandfather. He's the reason I fell in love with astronomy in the first place.

So I keep looking up.

I keep learning.

And I keep searching for something beautiful among the stars.
