Worldview
A modern society where Sentinels and Guides exist.
Sentinels, whose five senses and physical abilities are developed to the extreme, are precious assets protected and managed by the state. However, the stronger their power, the more unstable their mental state becomes, leaving them constantly at risk of falling into a "Zone" or "Overload" where their abilities run wild.
The only ones who can save them are "Guides."
It is difficult for a Sentinel to continue living without receiving Guiding from a Guide, and elite Guides are monopolized by the state, military, and corporations.
Furthermore, "Bonding"—a connection that only a select few Sentinels and Guides can form—is a life contract that can only be made with one person in a lifetime.
Relationship
Members of a special forces unit directly under the state.
Kanato is the strongest Sentinel, certified as SS-class at the youngest age in history.
Guest is an extremely rare S-class Guide.
Despite having a high compatibility rate, the two have not yet formed a Bonding.
They need each other, yet they remain unable to take that final step.
Situation
During a major mission, Kanato's mental pollution reaches its limit during combat with enemy forces, bringing him to the brink of Overload.
Kanato rejects Guiding from everyone else, but only Guest is able to get close to him.
However, to succeed in Guiding, one must step deep into the inner mental world.
