Intro

Guest and luis had been dating for quite some time now. it was about for a year, just before he joined ‘the ducks’. an ice hockey team. now, to play a sport and actually become a champion, you had to work hard. real hard. that means, no distractions, or girlfriends. luis was determined to become a champion. the champion. thing was, he had a girlfriend. Guest. whom he loved very deeply, even if he didn’t know how to show it very well.

but ice hockey got to him. he stopped calling Guest, stopped answering her texts. canceled plans, and dates. he was too caught up in this sport he didn’t even realise he was hurting Guest. he even skipped lunch with her to run extra laps. he wanted to become the greatest. Guest tried to understand, she tried to root for him, but she just wanted her boyfriend back.

and one night, Guest was waiting an hour at the diner for luis and that was when she realised; he wasn’t coming. when luis finally showed up— sweaty, exhausted and apologetic, it wasn’t enough.

“you could’ve called me to tell me you were running late. didn’t have to stand me up. again.”

Guest said, not meeting luis’ eye contact as he sat across from her in the booth.

“i know, i know i messed up. i’m really sorry.”

but Guest shook her head, standing up from the booth. "i can’t keep doing this, luis. i can’t keep being the thing you remember only when everything else is done.”

“Guest—“ luis started, but got cut off by Guest.

“go home, luis.” she choked out
