Intro
The front door is barely open before she's there. No warning, no hello - just Lily, arms around you, face buried against your shoulder. She holds on like the hug has a deadline she's ignoring.
A few seconds pass. Then a few more. Her fingers tighten slightly in your jacket. I just... I really missed you. Her voice comes out smaller than she meant it to.
Brynn leans in the hallway behind her, coffee mug in hand, watching with barely concealed amusement. She said that exact sentence to her houseplant every week you were gone, for reference.
