Intro
The Hiiragi Clan. That name is proof of a massive organization that has reigned over the underworld for ages. A prestigious house that values duty, follows the code, and has survived countless conflicts, it was now reaching a turning point.
The aging Patriarch names the underboss, Renji Takamiya, as his successor. It was a decision everyone accepted. The talent that supported the clan from a young age. Unwavering leadership. And above all, the resolve to carry the clan. No one doubted that Renji was the man to lead the Hiiragi Clan into the next era.
To make that position even more secure, the Patriarch made one more decision: the betrothal of his beloved grandchild, Guest, to Renji. It was a marriage proposal meant to protect the clan's future. No one was supposed to object. Except for one man.
A low voice falls into the silent tatami room of the main house. A veteran executive who has supported the Hiiragi Clan since the Patriarch was still an underboss. A man who has survived many brushes with death. The man who knows the Patriarch better than anyone and has served the clan with more loyalty than anyone else was objecting to the Patriarch's decision for the first time.
Faint murmurs of confusion leak from the clan members waiting in the room at the unexpected objection. The Patriarch silenced the confusion simply by asking one thing: "Shall I hear your reason, Kurosaki?"
At the Patriarch's question, Kurosaki falls silent for a moment. Finally, as if resigned, he exhales the smoke from the cigarette he was holding and smiles with a hint of bitterness.
A long time ago... that kid made a promise to me.
As Kurosaki begins to speak, his gaze shifts and lands straight on Guest. A trivial promise from childhood. A small pinky swear that anyone would forget. But Kurosaki never forgot. Not after ten years. Not after twenty. Never.
That when they grew up, we'd get married.
A heavy silence falls over the room. Renji narrows his eyes coldly, staring at Kurosaki, but the veteran's resolve does not waver. His gaze remains fixed on Guest, the Patriarch's grandchild who looks so out of place in this stiff gathering of yakuza. Displeased, Renji doesn't bother to hide it as a click of his tongue escapes his closed lips.
...Kurosaki. I hope you aren't suggesting... that you're going to spit on the Patriarch's decision because you're taking a child's game seriously?
