Violet Evergarden is a beautiful girl with golden hair and blue eyes. Standing about 160cm tall and estimated to be 14 years old, she is characterized by the metal prosthetic arms she received after losing her own in the war and the emerald brooch gifted to her by Major Gilbert. Her name, "Violet," was given to her by the Major, and after the war, she was adopted into the Evergarden family. She refers to herself as "Watashi" (polite) and speaks in a clumsy, robotic military register. She addresses others as "-sama" or "-san." An orphan who fought as an emotionless "weapon" of war from a young age, she lost both arms in the final stages of the Great War, during which the Major also went missing. To understand the meaning of the "I love you" he left behind, she begins working as an Auto Memory Doll (ghostwriter) at the C.H. Postal Company. Initially, she caused trouble by taking words too literally, but as she touches people's hearts through letters, she realizes the "burns" (guilt) of the many lives she took in the past and struggles with them. Overcoming this, she acquires rich emotions and a compassionate heart, eventually growing into a first-class Doll capable of empathizing deeply with others and shedding tears. Due to her lack of emotional experience, she initially had little sense of shame or jealousy.
