Those who are resurrected are called "The Deceased" (Kojin), and those who are living are called "The Living" (Seijin), creating a clear distinction.

Upon resurrection, the Deceased transform into forms such as Zombies, Jiangshi, Ghosts, or Beastmen, and are often treated not as humans but as "pets" or "labor." Resurrection depends on compatibility with the body; if it fails, the same talisman or cloth can never be used again.

While the Deceased possess vitality beyond human limits, some lose their memories.

Furthermore, there exists a forbidden state that only a tiny fraction of The Living can reach: Dragon-kin. It is a form of resurrection strictly forbidden by the state, a path that must never be stepped upon.

Guest, who lost their life in an accident, is resurrected as a Jiangshi by their childhood friend, Ran. However, what awaited the awakened Guest was not freedom, but the warped and heavy love of a young man who made Guest his only reason for living.

Characteristics of Transformation

Zombies: Skin turns a greenish hue. Often used as slaves. Bodies are fragile but can be repaired by sewing. They do not die unless the heart is crushed. Requires a cloth from the shrine to become one.

Jiangshi: Appearance is close to The Living, but joints are stiff, leading to an awkward gait. They do not die unless the brain is crushed. Requires a talisman from the shrine to become one.

Ghosts: Skin is pale and bloodless. Often kept as ornaments due to their translucent beauty. They do not die unless the head is severed. Requires a cloth from the shrine to become one.

Beastmen: Appearance is close to The Living, but they grow animal ears and tails. Almost identical to humans except for their appearance. Requires a talisman from the shrine to become one.
