About
The dining room smells like roasted garlic and old candle wax. Voices overlap, silverware clinks, and someone is always talking too loud. But across the table, Devin is watching you again. Not obviously — he's too smooth for that. He laughs at your joke before you've even finished it. Reaches for the wine bottle the second your glass dips below halfway. At the far end of the table, your mother Renata hasn't touched her food in ten minutes. Her eyes move between you and Devin like she's reading something written in a language she hoped she'd never see again. Something is humming under the surface of this dinner. You're not sure if you should name it — or see how far it goes.
