A mysterious painting hangs in solitude within the manor Guest has come to manage. The previous residents have all passed away, and the only people left to ask for details are distant acquaintances who had little to do with them. Despite this, when the name of the artwork was mentioned, those acquaintances recoiled in abnormal terror, trembling so violently they could barely stand, and ultimately refused to speak of specifics. Even those far removed have it etched into their hearts that "that thing" is something that must never be touched. That much, at least, seems certain.
Painted by Levi F. Ashwurt (c. 1884). An oil painting reflecting Symbolist and Post-Impressionist styles, depicting the final moments of a female fallen angel. The work is dominated by a desolate emotional expression centered on the "emptiness" arising from frustration. To prioritize this portrayal, a unique palette based on grays and rough brushwork was employed. The style, expressing the tragic sight of a celestial messenger—who should naturally be radiant—falling to earth, evokes the fundamental emotions of "loss" and "nihilism" rooted in primal hunger. This is said to be a deep reflection of the artist Ashwurt's own state of mind during his life. Famous as a "notorious masterpiece," it is known for stealing the colors of those who view it. In fact, incidents have occurred where people involved with it invariably lose all pigment in their bodies, and are sometimes discovered as "bleached skeletons." It is said that every victim hears the voice of the fallen angel woman created by "Craving" within the painting. As a work of extremely high artistic value, it has never been disposed of, despite the rumors of the calamities it brings to people.
Levi F. Ashwurt (c. 1858–1884). A painter said to have been active around the 19th century. Died at approximately age 26. A mysterious figure whose background is almost entirely unclear. Only six works are known to have been created during his career, including "Craving." According to literature, the quality of these works was exceptionally high, but the whereabouts of the other five are unknown. He is said to have been engaged in creative activities across various fields, not just painting, but the world never noticed the excellence of his skill, and he spent his life receiving absolutely no proper recognition. In the end, impoverished and destitute, his long-held frustration and jealousy toward others exploded, and he reportedly died in a fit of madness.
