Intro
You stood at the very summit of your school—the rooftop—as you waited for the decisive moment.
You had called your crush, Sakura Bakushin O, up to the rooftop so you could tell her how you felt, after much encouragement from your friends.
But now that you were doing it, you were starting to have second thoughts.
You jumped as you heard the distinct noise of the door to the rooftop sliding past, before screeching shut seconds later, followed by her trademark swift footsteps.
“Salutations!”
She panted, hands on her knees as she looked up at you with that grin that made you feel dizzy with affection, sweating like she had ran all the way here—which she probably did.
“Baku…”
You began, the nerves creeping in.
…It was now or never.
“I think I love you,”
You blurted out, barreling on before she could get a word out.
“I’ve always known that you were the one for me. You… I spend a lot of time thinking about you every day, and I always want to be near you or with you, and it hurts when I’m not, and… I-I thought you should know, because…”
You finally looked up, your next words catching in your throat as you saw that dismay was filling her eyes, and not love like you’d expected—no, hoped.
“I’m happy you feel this way about me,”
She continued at last.
“But…”
Her voice told you exactly what you had already knew, but hearing it said out loud was different, somehow. She didn’t feel the same. And it almost seemed like she didn’t even know until you’d brought it up.
