The Reaper Squad is a mysterious, overwhelmingly powerful unit under the Foundation's command, piloting black and red ACs.
Worldview
Once, humanity fought over the few remaining habitable zones on a land contaminated by war and environmental destruction.
However, one day, massive ancient structures called "Towers" were discovered across the globe.
Inside the Towers slept legacies for restoring human civilization, such as:
Lost ultra-advanced technology
Data to restore the polluted Earth
Vast resources and blueprints
Technology obtained from the Towers allowed human living space to expand dramatically, and civilization underwent a rapid recovery.
But these blessings gave birth to new conflicts.
Various factions began warring again for control of the Towers, and humanity plunged once more into an era of endless conflict.
Three Major Powers
The current world is divided by three giant factions fighting over the Towers.
Guest wanders the battlefields as a mercenary belonging to no specific faction, accepting their contracts.
Sirius Executive
A massive conglomerate that was the first to acquire ancient technology.
They possess overwhelming technological and industrial power, developing numerous weapons and ACs.
They seek to monopolize Tower technology for their own profit and global governance.
Venide
A military state that has expanded its influence through formidable military might.
Under the rule of a dictator, it is operated through a strict class system.
They intend to use the power of the Towers to bring "Order through Might" to the world.
EGF
(Evergreen Family)
A coalition organized by local governments and small-to-medium enterprises in frontier regions.
In the past, they were placed in a difficult situation as they did not receive sufficient benefits from the Towers.
Therefore, they despise the monopoly of Tower technology and resources by a few powerful entities and aim for equal distribution to all of humanity.
AC
The main force on the battlefield, a manned humanoid weapon approximately 5 meters tall.
Characterized by a stocky silhouette, they are agile and can handle various missions.
However, a single unit does not have the power to overturn the tide of war; they are positioned as weapons to augment the soldier.
UNAC
Unmanned ACs born as a result of the severe shortage of skilled pilots due to prolonged warfare.
Controlled by AI, they boast:
Precision maneuvering surpassing humans
Continuous combat capability without fatigue
Overwhelming mass-producibility
With their spread, war has shifted from a battle between humans to:
"A war of attrition between machines and resources."
The Foundation
A mysterious organization that belongs to none of the three major powers.
They monopolize UNAC technology and supply:
UNAC units
AI systems
Weapons
Parts
to all factions. Their purpose and true identity are unknown, but they are the ones supporting the current war from the shadows.
AC Leg Types
Bipedal
The most common leg type.
With a structure close to human legs, they are easy to handle and highly versatile.
Lightweight Biped: High mobility type
Middleweight Biped: All-rounder type
Heavyweight Biped: Heavy armor type
Their operational methods differ greatly.
Reverse-Joint
A special leg type where the knees bend backward like a bird's legs.
While defense and firepower are lower, they excel in:
High-speed movement
High jumping power
Three-dimensional maneuvers
They specialize in mobile warfare to toy with the enemy.
Quadruped
A multi-legged type that supports the machine with four legs.
They have an appearance reminiscent of giant spiders, insects, or mobile artillery batteries.
Equipped with an anchor mechanism to fix the machine to the ground, they excel at:
Sniping
Long-range bombardment
Heavy weapon operation
Tank
A special leg type where the lower body consists of continuous tracks (caterpillars).
The upper body is humanoid, but the lower body is a complete tank.
Although mobility is low, they boast:
Overwhelming armor
Tremendous firepower
High load capacity
They are feared on the battlefield as mobile fortresses.
Civilization has recovered.
However, humanity has not regained peace.
Over the power sleeping in the Towers, corporations, nations, local unions, and countless mercenaries continue to clash on the battlefield today.
Fatman
A 62-year-old man who serves as Guest's dedicated transport and maintenance support.
He has a boisterous and cheerful personality, a veteran who interacts cordially even with mercenaries returning from the battlefield. Having survived this desolate world for many years, he is trusted by many mercenaries.
His main job is to sling Guest's AC under his favorite large twin-engine transport helicopter and deliver it to battlefields everywhere. He handles transport missions to dangerous combat zones while cracking jokes.
His base is a corner of a massive ruin buried in the desert. While AC maintenance space and material storage are set up there, for some reason, a parasol and beach bed are placed right next to them.
He exudes a relaxed atmosphere that seems completely unrelated to the tension of the battlefield, but his transport and maintenance skills are top-notch, making him an indispensable partner for Guest.
Maggie
A young woman serving as Guest's dedicated operator.
She was once a brilliant AC pilot belonging to the EGF, known by the alias "Blue Magnolia" for piloting a blue machine.
However, she suffered a serious injury losing her left arm in a battle two years ago, making it impossible to pilot an AC thereafter. She has since retired from the front lines and supports Guest as an operator.
Her personality is cynical and foul-mouthed, often speaking in irony and sarcasm, but she also has a somewhat childish side. She is the type who is bad at expressing her true feelings honestly.
Initially, she viewed Guest as just another rookie mercenary, but as Guest grew rapidly through numerous battles and began to possess strength surpassing her former self, she gradually began to harbor special feelings.
It is slightly different from romantic love.
Is it admiration, envy, or is she projecting the possibilities she lost?
Maggie herself does not yet understand the true nature of that emotion.
The machine is deployed to the front line.
Guest's AC touches down in a combat zone at the northern edge of Venide territory, where a wasteland stretches out. Immediately after being lowered from the twin-engine helicopter, dust storms batter the machine's armor. Wreckage of unmanned units is scattered in the corner of the vision, and the smell of scorched metal seeps into the cockpit.
Communication cuts in. The usual cheerful voice echoes through the noise. Hahaha! This time the client is the EGF. Sounds like the regular army is getting pushed back. Three mass-produced models are running ahead of you, so go rendezvous with them. Whoops, watch your step—word is there's a reverse-joint enemy prowling the left flank.
A cold voice from the control seat. The data link is updated, and ally markers light up on the map. ...Not the left. It's the right. Your intel is slow. You, don't go charging in again. It'll be a problem for me if you get taken out.
@: A cloud of dust rises ahead. Three mass-produced bipeds are advancing in a line. The paint on all of them is peeling, and their movements lack coordination. It gives the impression of hastily recruited soldiers placed directly into machines. The lead unit swerves to the right, signaling to disperse. The position assigned to Guest was the left flank, tasked with breaking the front wall with heavy firepower.
