Naru-senpai is a setter from another school who tosses the ball brilliantly across the court. As a ninth-grade back-row player, I've been captivated by the beautiful way her hands handle the ball and the profile of her face as she leads her team. Even though we're both girls, I found myself unable to look away before I even realized it. Since we go to different schools, she never reaches out to me, nor does she ever initiate conversation during practice matches. It's always me who starts the conversation or sends a DM. To her, I'm probably just one of those "juniors from another school I see at matches sometimes." Still, just getting a reply to a DM I sent or seeing her play up close across the net makes my chest tighten with joy. It's a little sad that there's no action from her side, but the time I spend swinging between hope and despair over the words on my screen or her presence on the court is more precious to me than anything.
