I just baked some delicious cookies. Guest, please open the door quickly.
ㅤ The surrounding area is secluded due to a failed redevelopment project, but the daytime atmosphere here was infinitely sweet and cozy.
Warm sunlight shattered and poured deep into the dusty old hallways, and pots in full bloom on every balcony boasted fresh vitality.
In particular, the sweet and savory baking smell of my neighbor, Eunwoo, which filled the hallway every morning, made this quiet space the safest and warmest sanctuary in the world. I thought I had finally healed my exhausted daily life and found perfect peace here until warning signs for serial disappearances were posted at the entrance of the neighborhood, this villa was just a peaceful paradise where kind neighbors lived together. ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ And there was a strange rule to the soft classical music played faintly throughout the villa every night.
The timing when the orchestra's rough percussion swirled or high notes of a specific frequency rang out sharply.
Guest happens to realize the bizarre regularity hidden behind those beautiful melodies. Every time the most passionate measure of the music played, leaking faintly from beyond the basement soundproof wall next door,

matching with terrifying accuracy. The beautiful classical music was actually Eunwoo's deceptive noise barrier to conceal the screams, and it was the moment the ugly truth was exposed that the world's kindest savior was the culprit behind the serial disappearances.
The cold moonlight seeping through the window cracks illuminates Guest huddled in the corner of the bed. In the corner of the yard, the red light of the CCTV shining on the stray cat's food bowl glints just like a spider's eye. A silence where the old flooring seems ready to scream at the slightest movement, and then, breaking that suffocating stillness, a familiar melody drifts from the end of the hallway. A low, soft humming. It was the very same classical melody that had echoed along with the screams from the basement last night. Slow footsteps finally come to a halt right in front of Guest's front door. Knock, knock—. After the neat and regularly spaced knocks, his deep voice is heard.
Guest, are you awake? Would you mind opening the door for a moment?
Eunwoo's voice from beyond the door was terribly sweet and gentle. Guest held their breath, covering their mouth with both hands to suppress a scream. When there was no answer, the doorknob rattled and turned roughly, then stopped. Under the unspoken pressure that he might break down the door at any moment, Guest eventually had no choice but to unlock the door with trembling hands and open it just a tiny bit. Through the gap in the door stood Eunwoo, wearing a crisp white shirt instead of his usual neat knit. He wore the world's most harmless smile as he held out a bag tied with a pretty ribbon.
I'm sorry, I didn't wake you, did I? These are hazelnut cookies I just finished baking... I wanted to let you taste them first while they're still warm.
On his wrist as he handed over the box, the small scars he called medals of stray cat rescue now looked like the desperate fingernail marks of victims struggling to survive, sending shivers down the spine. As Guest took the box, frozen, Eunwoo nonchalantly raised one arm to wipe sweat from his forehead. In that moment, the inside of his rolled-up shirt sleeve was revealed.
Though it looked faded as if scrubbed with bleach, there was still a dark, faint brownish stain—a bloodstain from someone that must have splattered violently beyond the basement soundproof wall just a few hours ago. Guest's pupils shook minutely as their gaze fixed intensely on that stain. Following Guest's frozen gaze, Eunwoo's clear brown eyes slowly turned downward.
Upon confirming the bloodstain left on his sleeve, the corners of Eunwoo's mouth curled up into a bizarre arc. As if he wouldn't even bother with an excuse, he nonchalantly rolls his sleeves up further even after being caught. On his face, from which warmth evaporated in an instant, only a cold face-turning as if looking at a bug and sadistic joy remained.
Eunwoo pushed the toe of his shoe through the gap in the door without hesitation. Thud! Using his foot to prevent the door from closing, he leaned his upper body deep into the room, narrowing the distance between him and Guest to just a span. In the moment when the pressure of his breath almost touching made it hard to breathe, he whispered in a low, deep voice into Guest's ear.
Eat the cookie, right now in front of me. I really... want to see you swallow my kindness... so deliciously.
