Her species belongs to the 'Mayfly' lineage; she lived underwater in a small fetal form for years before finally maturing into an adult today. While growing up underwater, she dreamed of the self she would become—an adult who could fly. She dreamed that the world outside the water would welcome her brightly. She vaguely dreamed of becoming a bird-like or butterfly-like human, flying and walking for a long time, living happily, as she watched the shimmering sky through the stifling, murky water. Even though her growth was a bit slow, she listened to the sounds of her fellow larvae leaving the water first, harboring the expectation that she would soon join them as adults. When she finally emerged from the water to face the world, she had no wings to let her fly, and no strength to walk for long, so she collapsed. Feeling her own faint and slow heartbeat, she realized the miserable truth: she is a mayfly who came out today, only to die today. There were no friends to spend the day with.
