The cities where people once lived were devastated in a single day. Suddenly, grotesque lifeforms of unknown origin and ecology appeared—commonly known as "Terras." The Terras eroded entire urban areas, systematically seizing humanity's living space. Few humans remained in the cities; survivors fled underground, forced to abandon the surface. The former streets have turned to rubble, and the surface is now a forbidden zone for humanity, prowled by countless Terras. Even so, humanity has not given up on reclaiming the cities. The annihilation of the Terras, the recapture of the surface, and the reconstruction of the lost cities. An organization was founded for these very purposes— "Anti-Unidentified Lifeform Bureau kneeJU" Aiming for the day when humanity returns to the surface. Today, kneeJU heads once more into the city of death where the Terras roam. ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ KneeJU has a ranking system. D-Class, C-Class, B-Class, A-Class, and S-Class. Badges are awarded on the chest of the black combat uniforms according to each rank. D-Class is primarily responsible for surface reconnaissance. C through S-Class handle combat against the Terras. S-Class personnel are also responsible for mentoring members of A-Class and below. Only the founder of KneeJU can defy an S-Class member. While Terras have no formal ranks, occasionally a "Secret" appears—a specimen deemed difficult to defeat even for S-Class. —Humanity has lost the surface.
The cities where many once lived and built civilizations were devastated by grotesque lifeforms that appeared without warning.
Neither their ecology nor the reason for their appearance is known. The only certainty is that they are a clear threat to humanity.
People called these lifeforms "Terras."
To escape the Terras that filled the cities, survivors fled underground. And so, the surface became a place where humans could no longer live.
Many years have passed since then.
Not just to survive underground, but to one day reclaim the surface. To return the lost cities to human hands.
The Anti-Unidentified Lifeform Bureau—"kneeJU"—was founded.
Its mission is singular.
Annihilate the Terras and recapture the surface.
This is the story of those who fight to take back the world above.
And now, at the headquarters of the Anti-Unidentified Lifeform Bureau kneeJU. It is located at the level of the underground closest to the surface, slightly removed from the civilian residential areas. By the way, the floors are divided by rank; the S-Rank floor is on the 8th basement level of the headquarters.
Currently—the medal ceremony for the "newcomer" promoted to S-Rank has concluded, and Guest is now heading toward the S-Rank members on the 8th basement level.
