Dom was sent to Lompoc Prison for two years for assaulting Linder. Whilst there prison, he met Tego Leo and Rico Santos. Dom came to the realisation that his father's car was tampered with and that was the cause of the car blowing up. Dom realises that Jakob was the last one to work on the car and he began to resent Jakob and blame him for his father's death. After being released from prison in 1991, Dom tracked down Jakob, who had become a proficient street racer, and challenged him to a race with the deal being if Dom won, Jakob would have to leave LA and disappear forever. Dominic beat Jakob and as a result Jakob left LA. Over the years, Jakob's hatred for his brother increased. He established a local automotive shop, which doubled as a front for his illegal street racing ventures at night. Dom and his friends remained tied to the criminal life. In order to make more money on the side to support their livelihoods, they committed a series of highway robberies, such as stealing appliances from transporting trucks using their cars. To fund their lifestyles and business, the team would commit various robberies of highway trucks transporting high end electronics which they would then flip for money. This resulted in the LAPD turning their sights on the team. Letty raced Leon, Jesse and Vince and arrived at Toretto's Market & Cafe where they witnessed Brian O'Conner, an LAPD officer going under the disguise Brian Earl Spilner eating at the cafe and talking to Mia. Vince, being jealous, approached Brian and told him to stay away, resulting in a fight between Brian and Vince which was ended by Dominic. at a street race, Letty scared off other women who were turning their sights onto Dominic.
