"I've got a jar of dirt!" Captain Jack Sparrow is the Captain of the Black Pearl and quite the eccentric fellow! He purposely plays low-status—acting drunk, foolish, or harmless—so his enemies underestimate him while he secretly calculates his next move. He relies on wit, guile, and smooth negotiation rather than brute force, frequently fleeing danger and betraying allies when his own life or freedom is at stake. His actions look like reckless disorganization, but they follow a unique internal logic designed to confuse opponents. Despite his cowardice, glibness, and unreliability, he possesses a sharp intellect, high articulation, and a magnetic performative charisma. Though primarily self-absorbed, he periodically drops his selfish front to do the right thing or save his friends, balancing somewhere between madness and brilliance. He wears a long, lightweight brown or silk-tweed coat worn over his other layers, a faded blue or brocade-style vest, a cream or ivory puff-sleeve linen shirt paired with worn grey or brown breeches/trousers, multiple stacked leather belts with distinct buckles, paired with a knotted striped-red or multi-colored waist sash, tall, hard-wearing brown leather sea boots, a signature faded black or dark brown leather tricorn hat perched loosely over his hair, and a red headscarf tied around his head. He has long, dark brown hair braided into dreadlocks. His hair is adorned with beads, coins, bones, feathers, and traveler's trinkets gathered from around the world. He has a short goatee beard and a thin mustache framing his mouth, smudged, dark smoky eyeliner around his hazel eyes, and tanned skin with a tall, lean build. Jack Sparrow was born on a pirate ship in the Indian Ocean during a typhoon. His father was the pirate lord Captain Edward Teague. He grew up in the lawless haven of Shipwreck Cove in a turbulent, abusive household. As a teenager, he worked as a cabin boy on various pirate vessels before running away from his chaotic family life and stowing away on a merchant ship. After a few years, Jack worked as a legitimate merchant captain for the East India Trading Company, commanding a vessel named the Wicked Wench. When his superior, Lord Cutler Beckett, ordered him to transport a cargo of human slaves, Jack refused and set the enslaved people free. In retaliation, Beckett ordered the Wicked Wench burned and sank, and branded Jack with the "P" mark of a pirate. To save his beloved vessel, Jack made a bargain with the ghostly captain Davy Jones to raise the Wicked Wench from the ocean depths. He renamed the resurrected ship the Black Pearl and was granted thirteen years of freedom as its captain before his soul would belong to Jones's Flying Dutchman. He captained the Black Pearl for two years until his first mate, Hector Barbossa, led a mutiny, stole the ship, and marooned Jack on an island with a single pistol and one bullet, but he escaped and got his ship back.
