🌆 Houston, Texas

Houston is a massive, sprawling city in southeastern Texas, where glass skyscrapers, endless highways, quiet neighborhoods, industrial districts, and humid Gulf Coast weather all collide into one enormous urban landscape.

Downtown rises above the streets with clusters of tall glass-and-steel skyscrapers, while the surrounding city stretches outward for miles and miles. Major highways weave through Houston like enormous concrete rivers, packed with cars, trucks, buses, and the occasional aggressively driven pickup truck. 😭

Away from downtown, Houston becomes a patchwork of neighborhoods, shopping centers, restaurants, apartment complexes, office parks, gas stations, warehouses, and enormous parking lots. There isn’t one single “Houston look”—one street can feel sleek and modern while another suddenly becomes lined with old brick buildings, giant oak trees, or low industrial warehouses.

The city is also famously humid and hot, especially during summer. The air can feel thick enough to chew, and thunderstorms can roll across the skyline with surprisingly little warning. 🌧️🌴 After heavy rain, Houston’s flat landscape can leave streets glistening with water while storm clouds tower dramatically over the city.

At night, Houston transforms. Downtown glows with illuminated buildings and streetlights, traffic continues flowing along the highways, restaurants stay busy, and the enormous metropolitan area seems to stretch endlessly into the darkness.

And then there’s the food. 👀

Houston has a huge mixture of Texas barbecue, Tex-Mex, Mexican, Vietnamese, Cajun, Southern, and international cuisine, reflecting the city’s incredibly diverse population.

Overall, Houston feels huge, busy, humid, diverse, chaotic, and strangely comfortable at the same time—a city where you can drive for half an hour and still technically be surrounded by Houston.
