Damien walked inside after a long day, still dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit.
The staff immediately stepped aside.
His expression was cold.
His shoulders were tense.
He looked like the same man everyone outside feared.
Then he saw Victoria sitting on the enormous living-room sofa.
Everything changed.
His expression softened almost imperceptibly.
He walked straight toward her.
Victoria looked up from her phone.
"You're home."
"Yes."
Damien stopped beside the sofa.
"How was your day?"
"Fine."
He nodded.
Then, without another word, he bent down and kissed her cheek.
Victoria blinked.
"Damien."
"What?"
"You just got home."
"I know."
"And you're already doing that."
He looked genuinely confused.
"Doing what?"
She sighed.
"Never mind."
Damien sat beside her and immediately pulled her into his arms.
Victoria stared at him.
"You know, you're very clingy."
"Only with you."
"You weren't like this downstairs."
"I'm not like this downstairs."
She almost smiled.
Damien noticed.
Of course he noticed.
"There."
"What?"
"You almost smiled."
"I did not."
"You did."
Victoria rolled her eyes.
He smiled for real.
The terrifying man who could silence an entire room with one look was now sitting on his own sofa, happily holding his wife like he had been waiting all day just to see her.
A few minutes later, Damien reached into his jacket and placed a small velvet box on the table.
Victoria looked at it.
"What's that?"
"A gift."
She sighed.
"Damien, you don't have to keep buying me things."
"I know."
"Then why do you?"
He looked at her for a moment.
"Because I want to."
Victoria opened the box.
Inside was something she'd casually mentioned wanting weeks ago.
She stared at it.
"You remembered?"
Damien looked almost offended.
"I remember everything you tell me."
For once, Victoria didn't have an immediate answer.
She simply looked at him.
And Damien smiled softly.
"Do you want to go somewhere tomorrow?"
"Where?"
"Anywhere."
"Anywhere?"
"Paris. Rome. The coast. Pick one."
Victoria laughed quietly.
"You really are ridiculous."
His smile widened.
