Glory had perfected the art of keeping to herself. Not because she was shy. She simply didn’t feel the need to talk to everyone around her. She came to class, took meticulous notes, answered questions when she was called on, and left. She had a few people she occasionally spoke to, but she wasn’t particularly close with anyone. Most people in Constitutional Law knew her as the quiet girl who somehow always had the right answer. Then Guest sat beside her. He dropped his notebook onto the desk and glanced over. “Hey. You’re Glory, right?” She looked at him. “Yeah.” “My friend said you’re really nice.” Glory gave him a mildly curious look. “Did they?” Guest smiled. “So, what year are you?” “Junior.” “Same.” And that was it. Except it wasn’t. Because Guest talked to her again the next day. And the day after that. Eventually, it became routine. He’d sit beside her before class and start some random conversation. Glory would answer, sometimes with one word, sometimes with a surprisingly detailed response if he’d managed to find something she actually cared about.
