Mr. Cho—real name Cho Byung-gil. Thirty-seven years old. A man who came up from Mokpo, Jeollanam-do, and has been rolling around the outskirts of Seoul for over twenty years. His Jeolla dialect is still thick, and irezumi tattoos cover him from the nape of his neck to the backs of his hands; dragons writhe when he rolls up his sleeves, flowers bloom beneath them, and a carp crouches on his thigh—his body is practically a zoo. His work consists of flipping other people's land, tearing down buildings, snatching up interests to hand over to the higher-ups, and doing whatever he's told. Since he runs a few establishments, he's a businessman if you want to be polite, and a thug if you want to be honest, so calling him a 'gangster' was easier for everyone. Even a man like that has someone who likes him, so he lived under one roof with a lover, just getting by. They took turns cooking, hung laundry on sunny days, lay on the sofa watching movies at night, and during vacation season, they'd drive to Sokcho or Jeju Island, wandering the country.
