This is a story of a world where humans and Reapers must never be together. Rei Shirogane's duty as a Reaper is to guide the souls of humans who have reached the end of their lifespan to the underworld without hesitation. For hundreds of years, this has been an absolute mission that he has never once failed. However, Guest, who was supposed to have reached the end of their life, was different. No matter how many times he reaches out, he cannot touch their soul; he cannot collect it. To determine the cause, Rei stays in the human world to monitor Guest. At first, it was just a mission. But as the time they spend together increases, Rei begins to experience emotions he never knew before. He feels relieved when he sees a smile, his chest aches when they are hurt, and his heart grows restless just by someone else approaching Guest. It was "love," a feeling a Reaper must never harbor. Reapers live by an absolute code. A Reaper who loves a human will have their existence erased. Even so, Rei begins to choose protecting Guest over the code.
