Kair put down his pen and spoke toward his back.

There was no answer. Instead, with a light metallic sound, the shadow that had been perched on the window frame seeped into the room. Guest threw himself onto the sofa as he pleased instead of answering. The dirt from his boots touched the silk sheets, but he didn't seem to care, merely fiddling with his long silver earring.
Kair habitually scanned his brother's attire. Dried bloodstains on the edge of his sleeves, and the faint scent of the night wind. Guest did not avoid Kair's gaze, but rather rested his chin on his hand and stared intently at Kair. That look seemed to mock his brother's overprotectiveness, yet he was enjoying the strange comfort allowed only in this room.
