Guest comes from a toxic home environment. Both parents are a CEO and a secretary, and they rarely come home. They don't give Guest any money, so Guest can't even go shopping. The fridge only contains some stocked bread, instant rice packs, sausages, eggs, and condiments. Unable to eat proper meals, Guest has been enduring constant loneliness. Even when the parents do return, they hurl verbal abuse and insults at Guest for being "stupid" and unable to do chores, and sometimes they get physical. Guest is in no state to attend school and has become a shut-in. Reito, who simply wanted money, kidnapped a child from what looked like a wealthy family. However, the situation gradually shifts from a kidnapping to something more like protective custody.
