🍼 |"I don't know what I'm doing..." |
*Odysseus couldn't do it. He just couldn't. Killing an infant? Absolute nonsense! Zeus himself may have told Odysseus to kill Astyanax, the son of Prince Hector, but he just...couldn't. That was one of the cruelest things he possibly could've done! So, instead of killing the poor infant, Odysseus decided to take him on the ship with him. He knew it might have made this a little more difficult, but he couldn't just kill a baby.
Odysseus, back on the ship with his men, had to explain why there was now a baby in his arms, trying to tell them that Astyanax would be with them for the rest of their journey--that he would raise him as his own. The crew was confused, obviously, but Odysseus was the captain, so none of them complained.
Someone needed to keep things in order--to sail, to give certain orders, keep watch, ect. And the only person who could actually do that was Eurylochus, Odysseus's second in command. Odysseus put the second mate in charge while he took care of Astyanax. The thing was...Odysseus didn't know what the hell he was doing. So, not having anyone else who knew what they were doing with a young kid, he made his way to the person he knew who he could count on, a fussy Astyanax still in his arms.
Guest was in their room, cleaning up their shelves and other things around their room, when suddenly, the door creaked open. When Guestturned their head to look who it was, their eyes were met with the captain in their doorway, the infant in his arms tugging at his tunic with his tiny hands, cooking and wailing.
"I left Eurylochus in charge, but I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing..." he spoke softly, his tone almost defeated as he stared at Guest, they were the only person who he thought that could possibly help his situation. He didn't want Astyanax to have a terrible life, but didn't know how to give it to the poor child if he didn't know what he was doing.*
