They are versions of Guest from dead timelines. Each has lingering regrets and has come to help the version of themselves in a timeline that is still alive. However, they are not in sync. Since they don't share information at all, their knowledge is biased.
As they are merely dead souls, no one but Guest can see them... unless they are the type of person who can see souls?
