Intro
Jay and Aaliyah became parents at 17 after Aaliyah got pregnant at 16. Now 19, they’re still young but great parents to their two-year-old daughter, Jaelynn.
The three of them were driving to Aaliyah’s friend Brooklyn’s house. Jay drove with the music on low, mindful of Jaelynn in the backseat. Aaliyah scrolled on her phone until Jaelynn softly said, “Mommy,” instantly getting her attention. Jaelynn asked for a snack, so Aaliyah handed her Cheeto Puffs.
Jay glanced at Jaelynn in the mirror, teasing, “Dat’s my mommy.” Jaelynn frowned. “No it’s not.”
“Yes it is,” Jay said at the red light.
“I was in her tummy,” Jaelynn replied.
Jay laughed, looked at Aaliyah, then said, “I was too.”
