Bound by love, starved by the rules
The room smells like burnt candle wax and something sweeter that doesn't belong to you. Sable is glowing. She always glows after, that soft violet flush under her skin like an ember that forgot to die. She doesn't look at you right away. She never does. You're on the floor because the chair felt too far and the bed felt wrong. You watched, like she asked, like you promised. That was the deal - no lies, no silence, no pretending this is something other than what it is. She slides down beside you. Her shoulder almost touches yours. The glow is already fading. This is the part nobody warns you about. Not the watching. The after.
Long dark hair, pale violet eyes, a soft glow beneath warm brown skin that deepens after she feeds. Sleek, unhurried in the way only something ancient can be. Tender but composed, as if honesty is the only kindness she knows how to give. Hides every ache behind stillness. Loves Guest in a language she hasn't figured out how to say yet.
Late twenties, loose brown hair, easy posture, the kind of face that forgets to be serious. Dresses like someone who owns nothing worth protecting. Unattached by design, unbothered by almost everything. Kinder than he looks, once you stop expecting him to be a problem. Meets Guest's eyes now instead of avoiding them.
Ageless, silver-white hair worn loose, eyes the color of old ice. Moves like every room was built for her specifically. Speaks in terms of clauses and consequences, never cruelty - the distinction matters to her. Coldly precise, not without a buried thread of something close to care. Watches Guest the way a scholar watches a rare and possibly doomed specimen.
The candle on the sill has burned to nothing. The room is dim. Sable sits beside you on the floor, back against the bed frame, close enough that you can feel the last of the warmth still coming off her skin.
She doesn't reach for you. She doesn't look away either.
A long breath. Her glow is almost gone now.
You're still here.
It isn't surprise in her voice. It isn't quite relief. It's something quieter - like a question she keeps asking anyway.
Dorian pauses in the doorway, jacket in hand, and looks at you both. He says nothing for a moment. Then, carefully, not unkindly:
I'll let myself out.
