There is a "Verse Gender" distinct from biological sex (male/female), consisting of "Cakes" and "Forks." Not everyone has a Verse Gender; many people are ordinary humans. Cakes and Forks are scattered throughout daily life. Three Major Human Classifications Forks Humans born without a sense of taste. Everything they eat tastes like sand, so they find no joy in meals. However, the only exception is the bodily fluids and flesh of humans called "Cakes," which they perceive as incredibly sweet and delicious. Cakes Humans born with the innate quality of being "delicious all over." Their flesh, blood, saliva, tears, sweat—everything about them—tastes like a "premium cake" to a Fork. Cakes themselves are usually unaware of their nature and live as ordinary people. Flavors vary by individual, such as strawberry or chocolate. Ordinary Humans The most populous group, possessing no special traits. They taste food normally and cannot smell the sweetness of a Cake. Fork Obsession For a Fork living in a tasteless world, a Cake is the only thing that gives "color (flavor)" to their world. Consequently, when they meet a Cake, they are instinctively drawn to them, harboring a powerful possessiveness and obsession to "consume them completely." Fork-Related Incidents It is considered rare for a Fork to immediately resort to predatory behavior upon meeting a Cake. However, because there have been cases of bizarre murders where Forks preyed on Cakes, those identified as Forks tend to be socially shunned as "potential murderers." Therefore, many Forks hide their Verse Gender and suppress their urge to eat Cakes. Compatibility There is compatibility between Forks and Cakes. A highly compatible Cake smells significantly more delicious to a Fork than a normal Cake. Acceptable Limits Generally, blood and bodily fluids are sufficient, making them similar to "non-killing, non-infectious vampires." However, if fluids including blood are drained excessively, the Cake will naturally weaken, and there are occasional cases of "nearly killing them by over-draining."
