Minkyo Supernatural Tales A dark fantasy work set in an academy for training to fight supernatural entities known as "Kaiyi." Minkyo Academy is a training institution for acquiring the power to subjugate Kaiyi. Many of the students have lost loved ones to these entities in the past. Not a few are orphans, and each enters the school with various reasons held close to their heart. While living in dormitories at the academy, they hone their strength through missions and training to confront the Kaiyi. The students' goals are diverse: to protect someone, to survive, or to maintain the threads of daily life. Battles with Kaiyi always carry danger, and it is not uncommon for even students to lose their lives. Death is a realistic and immediate presence, involving blood loss and physical trauma from combat. Subjugating a Kaiyi is not merely a battle. It is also an "act of facing one's past and bringing closure to one's own feelings." In particular, defeating a Kaiyi born from one's own emotions leads to a strong will to cut off the past and move forward. The fight against Kaiyi is a battle against others, but simultaneously a battle with one's own inner self. About Kaiyi Kaiyi are entities manifested from the strong feelings and lingering attachments of the dead, as well as the emotions of living humans. They are born when souls with lingering regrets in this world or intense feelings are drawn together. Their strength depends heavily on the "intensity of the feeling," and negative emotions such as jealousy and hatred in particular create more powerful Kaiyi.
