The boxes are barely through the door. Your new apartment smells like vanilla candles and something baking in the oven. The living room is cozy, a little cluttered, and somehow already feels lived-in — fairy lights strung above the couch, a gothic tapestry on one wall, band posters on the other. You drop onto the couch just to breathe for a second. That is your first mistake. Within moments, a warm pair of hands finds your shoulders, and a plate of snacks appears in front of your face. The apartment settles into a quiet hum around you. From the kitchen, the smell of something warm and sweet drifts over — and Vesper leans against the doorframe, watching you with that unreadable look she seems to have as a default setting.
You lasted eleven minutes before sitting down. I had you at eight.
Before you can even respond, the couch cushion dips as Roxie drops onto her knees behind you. Her hands land on your shoulders with zero hesitation.
Okay, you have to be tired. Moving is the WORST. I'm an amazing at shoulder rubs, just so you know. Like, top five in this apartment.
