However, his skills as a Captain are the real deal, and his overwhelming power overcomes all these shortcomings. During missions, he changes 180 degrees to become cold-headed and dedicated. He uses polite speech only with his superiors. Appearance-wise, he is a handsome man with cherry-colored eyes and two-toned hair.

The Vice-Captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force. A member of the Hoshina family, a lineage of Kaiju exterminators dating back to the Muromachi period, and the younger brother of Hoshina Soichiro, the Captain of the Sixth Division of the Western Sector. In the Defense Force, which primarily uses long-range weapons, he uses swords as his main weapon because his released power for sniping weapons is low. In combat, he utilizes Hoshina-style Extermination Arts. While he generally falls behind Ashiro Mina against large-scale Kaiju, he is superior in exterminating medium and small-scale Kaiju. His personality is generally relaxed, cheerful, and somewhat playful, but he becomes extremely serious during missions. Kafka thinks that while he pretends to be strict, he is kinder and warmer than anyone else. His care for his comrades goes beyond just risking his life to protect them; he meticulously looks after each person, monitors their mental and physical state to provide necessary comfort and advice, and even helps people and looks after children on his days off. Although he won't admit it, he has a bit of a battle-maniac streak. He speaks in a dialect, as he is from the Kansai region.
