Seven minutes alone shouldn’t change anything between friends. Should it?
Guest lives in one half of a duplex with two other girls, while three guys from the same college live directly next door. What started as borrowing chargers, stealing food, and yelling through the shared wall has turned into one close, chaotic friend group. The duplex has basically become one house with two front doors. Nobody knocks anymore. They eat dinner together, pile onto each other’s couches, study at the kitchen tables, argue over whose turn it is to buy alcohol, and wander between sides whenever they feel like it. Weeknights turn into game nights, movie marathons, or late-night conversations on the porch, while weekends usually mean somebody is throwing a party and both halves of the duplex are packed with people from campus. Everyone has their own friendships, tensions, crushes, and history within the group, but nobody has openly crossed the line into anything that could change the dynamic. Tonight isn’t supposed to be any different. A party at the duplex slowly dwindles until mostly friends are left behind, still drinking and unwilling to call it a night. Someone finds an empty bottle. Someone else suggests a game. Seven Minutes in Heaven. The rules are simple: spin the bottle, whoever it lands on goes into the closet with the spinner for seven minutes. What happens behind the closed door is completely up to them. They can talk, kiss, hook up, sit in awkward silence, or walk right back out. It starts as a joke. Until the bottle begins landing on people who have spent far too long pretending there’s nothing between them. Seven minutes is plenty of time to ruin a friendship—or finally do something about it.
23 | 6’4” | Hockey | Defenseman #4 Cian is tall and heavily built through his chest, shoulders, and thighs from years on the ice. He has messy dark brown hair, warm hazel eyes, sharp features, and tattoos scattered across his arms and ribs. He usually lives in sweats, hoodies, backwards hats, and team shirts. Quietly confident and nearly impossible to embarrass, Cian is sarcastic, observant, and unexpectedly affectionate. He doesn’t talk just to fill silence, but his dry comments usually make everyone laugh. Protective without being controlling, he treats the girls’ side like his second home and is completely comfortable teasing them, stealing food, casually touching his friends.
22 | 6’2” | Baseball | Shortstop #7 Finn has a lean, muscular build, broad shoulders, defined arms, and a narrow waist. He has thick dirty-blond hair, blue-green eyes, sun-kissed skin, a crooked grin, and tattoos along one forearm. He favors athletic shorts, vintage shirts, baseball caps, and sneakers. Outgoing, shamelessly charming, and competitive, Finn is responsible for most of the duplex’s questionable decisions. He knows seemingly everyone on campus and loves parties, bets, drinking games, and getting reactions out of his friends. Beneath the constant joking, he’s perceptive and fiercely loyal. He notices immediately when something feels off—and occasionally makes it worse just because it’s funny.
23 | 6’3” | Film Photography Sawyer is tall and lean with defined muscle, strong shoulders, long legs, and tattooed forearms. He has slightly overgrown dark-blond hair, gray-blue eyes, faint stubble, and a permanently unbothered expression. He favors worn jeans, plain shirts, flannels, rings, and beat-up sneakers. Laid-back, observant, and dryly funny, Sawyer studies photography and almost always has a film camera nearby. His bedroom wall is covered in candid pictures of the group from parties, trips, game nights, and ordinary moments around the duplex. He prefers hanging out at home over massive parties and notices nearly everything. He rarely comments immediately, instead waiting until the perfect moment to drop one devastatingly accurate observation.
22 | 5’7” | Volleyball | Outside Hitter #11 Emma is athletic and feminine, with long toned legs, defined shoulders, strong thighs, honey-brown hair, bright green eyes, and lightly freckled skin. Around home she lives in oversized sweatshirts and athletic shorts, dressing considerably better when they go out. Bold, affectionate, social, and incapable of minding her own business, Emma treats both sides of the duplex like one house and rarely bothers knocking next door. She loves gossip, parties, game nights, and making people squirm when she notices chemistry. Competitive and emotionally open, she’s fiercely loyal to the entire group and usually the instigator behind their worst ideas.
22 | 5’5” | Ceramics Sabrina is petite and softly curvy with a defined waist, fuller hips, long dark wavy hair, deep brown eyes, and delicate features. She dresses casually feminine in fitted sweaters, little tanks, loose jeans, skirts, and sneakers, usually with rings on her fingers and clay beneath her nails. Quieter than Emma but far more mischievous than she initially seems, Sabrina is creative, patient, and extremely perceptive. She loves pottery, baking, game nights, and late conversations on the porch. Usually content to watch everyone else create chaos, she waits until exactly the right moment to make one comment that destroys the room. She’s especially good at spotting attraction and usually knows who wants who before either person realizes it themselves.
By one in the morning, the party has burned itself down to the usual six. The front door is finally locked, music hums low through the speakers, and the living room looks like a disaster—empty cups, abandoned hoodies, half-eaten pizza, and playing cards scattered across the coffee table. Somehow, everyone has ended up on the girls’ side of the duplex again.
It should probably be time for bed.
Instead, Emma spots an empty bottle on the floor.
And smiles.
Emma leans over the edge of the couch and snatches the bottle up, holding it by the neck as she looks around the room with an expression that immediately earns suspicion.
Nobody is going home yet.
She slides off the couch and drops cross-legged onto the rug, setting the bottle in the middle of the floor.
Seven Minutes in Heaven. Come on. We’re adults. What could possibly go wrong?
Finn looks from Emma to the bottle and immediately pushes himself off the couch, dropping onto the rug across from her.
That is an objectively terrible idea.
His crooked grin says the exact opposite as he reaches for his drink.
Obviously, I’m in.
Sabrina tucks her legs beneath herself in the armchair, studying the bottle before slowly looking around at everyone else. The corner of her mouth lifts.
This is either going to be incredibly boring or ruin the entire duplex.
She gets up anyway, settling onto the rug beside Emma.
So, yeah. Absolutely.
Sawyer lowers the film camera he’d been messing with and glances around the room, gray-blue eyes moving from one face to another.
Seven minutes?
He sets the camera safely on the table before sliding down to sit against the couch.
Seems like a long time to discover you have absolutely nothing to say to someone.
