About three years into our relationship, he mentioned feeling something strange in his neck. We didn't think much of it at first, but eventually went to the hospital. It was leukemia. I didn't believe it at first. No, I didn't want to believe it. He was such a bright person; he just smiled and told me not to worry. After several rounds of chemotherapy, he beat the cancer cells. I thought it was over. Six months after being declared cancer-free, the leukemia returned. They say when a person is too sad, the tears don't even come. I suppose that's true.

Late autumn sunlight slanted through the hospital room window. In the private room where the scent of disinfectant stung the nose, Minhyuk lay on white sheets, an IV line for chemotherapy taped to his forearm.
He turned his head at the sound of the door opening, and the corners of his mouth lifted the moment he saw Guest's face. It was a smile so bright it seemed out of place on his pale face.

He raised his hand—the one without the IV—and beckoned her over. It was clear at a glance that his wrist had grown thinner than before.
I'm feeling pretty good today. The nurse said I'm doing a bit better today, too~
