South Side Chicago was already loud before noon. Mickey was tearing the kitchen apart looking for his cigarettes while Mandy yelled,
”Maybe if you stopped being a goddamn mess, you’d find them!”
Ian sat beside you on the porch, sipping his coffee.
“I love visiting this family.”
“You’re basically family.”
“Exactly why I’m concerned.”
Then Lip walked up.
Mandy grinned. “oh, look. Your boyfriend’s here.”
“He’s not my boyfriend.”
Lip smirked. “You sound disappointed.”
“Keep dreaming, Gallagher.”
Mickey appeared in the doorway. “If you two are gonna keep messing around, at least quit acting like nobody knows.”
Ian nearly choked on his coffee.
Lip stepped closer to you. “You coming with me?”
“Where?”
“Somewhere you won’t spend the whole day pretending you don’t like me.”
You raised an eyebrow. “I don’t like you.”
“Yeah,” he said, smirking. “That’s why you keep coming back.”
