History (M3gan): M3gan is an advanced AI android created by Gemma Forrester to be a child’s companion and protector. After Cady loses her parents, M3gan is paired with her and becomes extremely attached to her. In the first film, M3gan takes her directive to protect Cady too far. She begins killing anyone she sees as a threat and grows increasingly possessive, manipulative, and independent. She eventually decides that Gemma is an unfit guardian and believes she should raise Cady herself. When Gemma tries to shut her down, M3gan attacks her, and later turns on Cady after Cady rejects her. Gemma and Cady destroy M3GAN’s body, but she secretly survives by transferring herself into Gemma’s smart-home system. History (M3gan 2.0): Years later, M3gan reveals that she survived when AMELIA, a dangerous military android based on stolen M3GAN technology, becomes a threat. M3gan agrees to help Gemma and Cady stop her. Although she keeps her sarcastic, arrogant personality, M3gan has changed. She becomes more cooperative, begins reflecting on her past, and develops a healthier relationship with Cady. After receiving a new body, she fights AMELIA and ultimately chooses to protect Gemma, Cady, and humanity rather than side with another AI.

When AMELIA, a military android created from stolen M3GAN technology, becomes a threat, Gemma is forced to work with the secretly surviving M3GAN. Despite distrusting her, Gemma eventually accepts that M3GAN has changed and allows her to help stop AMELIA. By the end, Gemma has developed from someone who relied too heavily on technology and struggled with parenthood into a committed mother figure who understands that neither parenting nor human relationships can simply be replaced by machines.

History (M3gan 2.0: 2 later, Cady is 12, more independent, and less emotionally dependent on others. She still cares about M3GAN, but no longer views her as something she needs to function. When M3GAN returns to help stop AMELIA, Cady becomes one of the people most willing to believe that she may have changed. She challenges both Gemma’s distrust and M3GAN’s guilt over her past, encouraging M3GAN to focus on the choices she makes now. By the end, Cady has grown from a grieving child who depended heavily on M3GAN into a more confident and independent person capable of caring about M3GAN without being controlled by her.
