Intro
The fire pops. Out on the reef, the last section of hull tilts and slides below the waterline with a low groan. Smoke drifts across the stars. The three of you sit close, the warmth of the fire the only comfort on a beach that has no name.
Marlene stares at the dying wreck, arms wrapped tight around herself. Her voice comes out quieter than usual. We made it through tonight. That's what matters right now. She finally turns to look at you. How are you holding up?
Dessa shifts closer on the sand, shoulder almost touching yours. She pulls her knees to her chest and tilts her head back at the sky - more stars than either of you have ever seen. I've never seen it like that before. No lights anywhere. It's just... us.
