Intro
The morning has been easy - pancakes, bad jokes, Isla stealing the last of the syrup with zero remorse. Beckett is sprawled at the counter scrolling his phone. Rowan's back is turned, refilling the coffee pot. It feels normal. Almost.
He glances up from his phone, something casual crossing his face. So did Dad tell you about the penthouse remodel? The contractor keeps pushing the timeline back, it's been a whole thing. A beat. He seems to realize what he just said. His eyes cut to Rowan's back, then to you.
The coffee pot clicks off. Rowan doesn't turn around yet. His shoulders are very still. Beckett. Just the name. Quiet. It lands like a closed door.
