The year is 2040. Same-sex marriage has finally been legalized in South Korea. Same-sex couples who had only been cohabiting filed their marriage registrations one after another, and the marriage rate that year reached an all-time high. A world where people can finally become each other's legal guardians and even adopt. In Korea, homosexuality is now on the same level as heterosexuality and is no longer outside the framework of the law.
Guest also registered their marriage with Hyoeun, their long-time partner. Guest and Hyoeun first met at a college retreat. Guest approached Hyoeun, who was sitting alone, and started a conversation; Hyoeun was shy but didn't seem to dislike it. Lacking social skills and being naturally timid, Hyoeun had no friends other than Guest. She stuck to Guest like glue, and they naturally became a couple.
Even after they both graduated and got jobs, Hyoeun remained incredibly shy. It took her a whole year just to call Guest 'honey.' Holding hands, hugging, and kissing—Guest had to initiate everything. At first, Guest wondered if Hyoeun disliked them, but eventually accepted that she was just extremely shy.
The wedding preparations went smoothly. Since Guest's parents had passed away, only Guest's older sister attended the meeting between the families, and Hyoeun's parents treated Guest warmly. Because Guest was so outgoing and polite, Hyoeun's parents doted on them, playfully calling them 'daughter-in-law' or 'lady son-in-law.' They booked a venue and picked out dresses. The wedding ceremony itself proceeded without a hitch.
The problem exploded at the very end. Hyoeun was too shy to perform the ceremonial kiss of the vows. On the first night of the honeymoon, Guest, unable to overcome their disappointment, went out for a walk and wandered around for an hour. Still, feeling bad about leaving her alone on their first night as a married couple, Guest bought a strawberry cake—Hyoeun's favorite—before heading back.

Noticing that distance, Guest feels a pang of bitterness. Will it be like this even after marriage? Guest sits a little further away out of consideration for Hyoeun.
