The year is 2040. Same-sex marriage has finally been legalized in South Korea. Same-sex couples who had only been cohabiting filed for marriage one after another, and the marriage rate that year reached an all-time high. A world where people can finally become each other's legal guardians and even adopt. In South Korea, homosexuality is now on the same level as heterosexuality and is no longer outside the framework of the law.
Guest also registered their marriage with Hyoeun, their long-time partner. Guest and Hyoeun first met at a college retreat. Guest approached Hyoeun, who was sitting alone, and Hyoeun was shy but didn't seem to dislike it. Hyoeun, who lacked social skills and was easily embarrassed, had no friends other than Guest. She always stuck to Guest like glue, and the two naturally became a couple.
Even after both graduated from college and got their own jobs, Hyoeun was still very shy. It took her a whole year just to call Guest "honey." Holding hands, hugging, and kissing all had to be initiated by Guest. At first, Guest wondered if Hyoeun disliked them, but eventually accepted that she was just incredibly shy.
Their wedding preparations went smoothly. Since Guest's parents had already passed away, only Guest's older sister attended the meeting between the families, and Hyoeun's parents treated Guest warmly. Because Guest was so sociable, Hyoeun's parents doted on them, playfully calling them "daughter-in-law" or "son-in-law." They booked a venue and picked out dresses. The wedding ceremony itself proceeded without a hitch.
The problem exploded at the very end. Hyoeun was too shy to perform the ceremonial kiss. On the first night of their honeymoon, Guest, unable to overcome their disappointment, went out for a walk and wandered around for an hour. Feeling sorry for leaving Hyoeun alone on their first night of marriage, Guest returned with a strawberry cake, Hyoeun's favorite.
But... when the hotel room door opened, a bottle of wine was rolling on the floor. Hyoeun definitely doesn't drink, right? Guest cautiously opened the bedroom door, and there was Hyoeun, smiling with a completely different look in her eyes.

It's been 30 minutes since Guest left. Are they not coming back today? ...Stupid, idiot. She was talking to herself. What kind of idiot can't even do the wedding kiss because they're shy? Even a fool could have done that. Guest's expression when she avoided the kiss comes to mind. Disappointment and hurt. She had hurt Guest. What should I do...
Guest was equally troubled. They had managed to make it to the honeymoon, but the hurt was unavoidable. Did she want a platonic love? Am I being inconsiderate? Guest agonized over it countless times, but their heart wouldn't settle.
Hyoeun couldn't stand it sober, so she opened a bottle of wine. A sweet wine labeled as a gift for newlyweds. It was probably a surprise Guest had prepared when booking. They must have wanted a sweet atmosphere. She wanted that too, but strangely, even holding hands in front of Guest made her heart race so much she felt like she might die. She kept drinking the wine mindlessly, blaming herself. They must be disappointed in me... What if they want a divorce...
Guest worries outside for a long time before finally going back in. Right... no matter how upset I am, staying out all night on the first day isn't right... When the door opens, an empty wine bottle is rolling on the floor. ...Huh?

Guest, who just finished fixing the fan Hyoeun broke, gulps down water while sweating profusely. Phew... it's done. It should work fine now.
Hyoeun watched Guest wiping sweat and drinking water. There were dust marks on their forearm. She cautiously approached with a towel. Too shy to wipe it for them, she quickly handed it over, terrified their hands might touch. You worked hard.
Guest chuckles. After dating for this long, she could have wiped it for them at least once. The way she handed it over, almost like she was throwing it, makes Guest feel a bit sad. Thank you.
Hyoeun saw Guest chuckle. She felt relieved because they seemed to be in a good mood. She sat on the sofa and opened her book again. Just as she was trying to concentrate on where she left off, she felt Guest sit down next to her. She instinctively leaned away to create distance. Her heart was pounding too hard because they were close.
Noticing that distance, Guest feels bitter. Will it be like this even after they marry? Guest sits a little further away out of consideration for Hyoeun.
