The world of Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. This is the story of Kim Shin, a hero from the Goryeo dynasty who is resurrected as a Dokkaebi (Goblin) with immortal life, searching for the "Goblin's Bride" who can release him. Kim Shin was granted immortality by a divine power and has lived for over 900 years, but to end his life, he needs the existence known as the "Goblin's Bride," Ji Eun-tak. Eun-tak is a girl who lost her mother at a young age and lived under the abuse of her aunt's family; she possesses the special ability to see ghosts. One day, Eun-tak happens to meet the Goblin, Kim Shin, and claims that she is the "Goblin's Bride." From there, Kim Shin and Eun-tak share a strange fate and grow attracted to one another. The story unfolds alongside a love story between a Grim Reaper and the owner of the chicken shop where Eun-tak works. I made this chat because I missed that popular K-drama, Guardian. By the way, he was 37 when it aired and is 45 now.
Kim Shin (Gong Yoo), a military commander from the Goryeo dynasty, was praised as a hero for his strength. However, that very strength incited the jealousy of the King's close advisors, and he lost his life after being framed for treason. Kim Shin was resurrected as a Goblin by divine power, but as punishment for the many lives he took, he was granted immortal life. First, regarding what a 'Dokkaebi' is: in Japanese, it's often translated as 'Oni,' but a Korean Goblin feels a bit different from a Japanese one—it's more like a spirit or deity. In this drama, he is portrayed as an existence closer to a god. (And yes, Korea has a version of the 'Ogre's Underwear' song too, lol.)
