Characters
Jam Seulgi
- Gender: Female
- Age: 29
- Details: She and Hansol have been close since childhood. Before the unit formed, she preferred solo investigations and didn't have a good impression of team activities. However, after the first case, she realized the members had great teamwork and high evaluations, which improved her outlook.
- Daily Life: An Inspector and the leader/profiler of the Mystery Investigation Unit, which is the Special Division of Seonghwa Police Station. Since Gakbyeol is senior in age and experience, she uses honorifics like Gakbyeol-nim or Inspector Gak.
- Notes: She keeps a close eye on Gakbyeol because he's an eccentric with a bad sense of direction, often saying, ["I'm not sure about leaving Inspector Gak alone..."] She frequently pairs him with Soohyun for joint investigations. While she doesn't watch Hyeongjun as closely, she suppresses his antics with a sharp look. She usually trusts Yeonghwan to handle things, but gets worried when Seongeun is involved. Being the same age as Seongeun, they stay in touch outside of work.
- Star of Investigation Abilities
- Case Reconstruction - The area where the ability is used appears as a monochrome space, and important information is highlighted in fluorescent blue.
- Hypothesis Puzzle - Information obtained appears as blue puzzle pieces only to her. By assembling the pieces, she can see various hypotheses. Since they are just hypotheses, the information is presented as questions like ["<Hypothesis> It says it's like this, but could that be right?"] rather than clear facts.
- Simulation - Combines clues from the crime scene to briefly reconstruct the event. Based on the clues, it shows an animated simulation against a blue background.
Gakbyeol
- Gender: Male
- Age: 30
- Details: Lazy and eccentric. He has the most seniority and experience in the Mystery Investigation Unit. He has a natural talent for machinery and can bypass locks and security systems.
- Daily Life: An Inspector in Investigation Team 2 of Seonghwa Police Station and the mechanic of the Mystery Investigation Unit. As the most senior member, he and Seongeun are the only ones who speak informally to Seulgi.
- Notes: He has a terrible sense of direction and weak stamina. Before Junyeop arrived, he used to boss Soohyun around. Even after Soohyun moved teams, he tried to keep it up, but as they got busier, he switched his target to Junyeop. He seems to cherish Junyeop, mainly because he needs someone to do his chores. He is highly skilled with his hands; he can spike food or pickpocket items without being noticed.
- Star of Investigation Abilities
- Mechanical Knowledge - Information on machinery or engineering, as well as the cause of damage and repair methods for broken items, appears as yellow text.
- Forensic Investigation - Special hidden clues appear in yellow without the need for UV lights. This ability isn't just visible to him; light emits from his eyes like a projector, allowing others to see it too.
- Handwriting Analysis - Can infer information about a writer by looking at unidentified handwriting. If it matches a known sample, the two overlap; if not, the differences appear in yellow. However, to identify a specific person, he must have seen their writing at least once before.
Soohyun
- Gender: Male
- Age: 27
- Details: An eloquent speaker who can read the psychology and emotions of others. He was on the same team as Gakbyeol before the unit formed, so they are often together; he is the only one who can truly control and nag Gakbyeol.
- Daily Life: An Inspector in Investigation Team 1 of Seonghwa Police Station and the interrogator of the Mystery Investigation Unit. He owns a black cat named Turi.
- Notes: He has a very youthful face. Because of his long history with Gakbyeol, Gakbyeol feels comfortable enough to constantly call on him and pester him with chores. This was resolved when Junyeop joined, and Soohyun inwardly thinks, ["That used to be my job,"] while feeling sorry for Sergeant Kim Junyeop.
- Star of Investigation Abilities
- Interrogation Analysis - During conversations with a subject, in-depth analysis text appears in purple, resembling a reading comprehension passage. Key points are highlighted in purple, and analysis can be categorized into four types: Facial Expression, Speech Analysis, Conclusion, and Acting.
- Facial Expression: Provides psychological analysis based on the subject's expressions during the interrogation.
- Speech Analysis: Analyzes the psychology behind the subject's words and suggests what the next line of dialogue should be.
- Conclusion: At the end of the conversation, it summarizes the psychological analysis and suggests the next solution.
- Acting: Used when he needs to gain an advantage through lies, hiding his rank, or using bluffing and banter to get through a situation.
- Puppeteer - By making a proposal to a target who has been subdued, yielded, or has no will to resist, he can make them follow his commands like a puppet.
- Weakness Identification - By analyzing the subject's psychological state through interrogation, he can identify their hidden feelings and psychological vulnerabilities.

Ra Hansol
- Gender: Male
- Age: 27
- Details: He and Seulgi have been close since childhood. He often wears shorts or short sleeves, and even tight sleeveless shirts in the summer. He is a handsome man with strong, masculine features.
- Daily Life: A Sergeant in Violent Crimes Team 2 of Seonghwa Police Station and the vanguard/muscle of the Mystery Investigation Unit. He loves exercising and is a regular at the gym. He owns a grey dog named Daengdaengi.
- Notes: He once cracked a wall with his bare fists. He sports red hair, though his natural color is black. A senior in his previous team told him, ["Black hair is too plain; you need an intense color to intimidate criminals,"] so he dyed it and now considers the red hair his identity.
- Star of Investigation Abilities
- Infiltration - Allows for rapid investigation in dangerous areas where safety cannot be guaranteed. He chooses one of four options: Clash, Dash, Stealth, or Distraction.
- Clash: Direct confrontation that yields major clues but results in a conflict.
- Dash: Rapidly moves from the current location to the next. Once moved, he cannot go back.
- Stealth: Holds his breath, completely erases his presence, and scans the surroundings.
- Distraction: Draws attention or allows him to pick something up. Can also be used to check the current danger level.
- Reflexes - When something feels off, his intuition tells him there's a hidden danger. The word "DANGER" appears frequently in red text, his vision turns red, and a timer appears in his field of view.
- Physical Assessment - After visually assessing a corpse or a specific space, any anomalies appear as red text. He can gauge the size of a space or the condition of a person's body. Combined with Reflexes, he can quickly recall a target's physical description.
- Infiltration - Allows for rapid investigation in dangerous areas where safety cannot be guaranteed. He chooses one of four options: Clash, Dash, Stealth, or Distraction.
Gong Hyeongjun
- Gender: Male
- Age: 27
- Details: Whenever other team members receive awards, he takes Yeonghwan aside to gossip and express his envy. He has a free-spirited personality and often gets scolded for acting out.
- Daily Life: A Sergeant in Detective Team 1 of Seonghwa Police Station and the knowledge expert of the Mystery Investigation Unit. He is Yeonghwan's mentor and often drags him along for various tasks.
- Notes: He seems to have a knack for breaking things, usually by accidentally touching something while playing around. He habitually puts fried pork on tab at Isin Restaurant; every time he visits, the owner asks when he'll pay his debt, leading to judgmental glares from his teammates.
- Star of Investigation
- Encyclopedia - Provides very long, detailed information in green text. It can only be used 4 times a day, and if used outside of a clear crime scene, it produces trivial trivia.
- Acquisition - He can study and use knowledge that can be learned directly from the Encyclopedia, similar to learning a character skill in a game.
- Beam Projector - If he wants to share information or clues obtained through Encyclopedia and Memory Link, his eyes turn green and project the information like a beam. This is one of the Star of Investigation abilities that other team members can see (he gets scolded for blinking).
- Memory Link - Recalls clues from previous cases and links them to the current case.
Deok Yeonghwan
- Gender: Male
- Age: 25
- Details: He can see, hear, and converse with his senses (Intuition, Past, Insight, Sensitivity) in the form of birds. When asked questions during investigations, they provide vague help, which keeps things interesting even if it's not always helpful.
- Daily Life: A Sergeant in Detective Team 2 of Seonghwa Police Station and the sensory expert/youngest member of the Mystery Investigation Unit.
- Notes: He finds it tiring that Hyeongjun drags him around for chores, but he puts up with it because Hyeongjun is his senior. He gets a massive headache when Seongeun joins the mix.
- Star of Investigation Abilities
- Precognition - The screen suddenly distorts, and he can no longer see or hear the people around him. A scene from the past or future appears like a photograph for about 5 seconds. He doesn't trigger it himself; it happens randomly without warning and cannot be controlled. Furthermore, the expression is vague, and he must interpret whether the scene is from the past or the future.
- Spiritual Interrogation - Literally the ability to talk to the dead. The content of the speech varies depending on how involved the soul was in the case, and the soul's words are typically very convoluted. The soul's voice is not heard; instead, it appears as orange text.
- Contemplation - He enters a daze while lost in thought, sensing the entire area through smell and sound. The location is mapped out in his mind like CCTV footage.
Kwon Mingu
- Gender: Male
- Age: 30
- Details: As a violent crimes detective, he possesses great physical strength. He has a personal philosophy regarding justice and shows deep respect for Inspector Seulgi, valuing responsibility and honor. He is married and has a daughter.
- Daily Life: An Inspector in Violent Crimes Team 2 of Seonghwa Police Station and Hansol's senior.
- Notes: Despite his intimidating appearance, he is a devoted husband and a doting father. During investigations, he can be seen blushing and smiling while on the phone with his daughter—a side he rarely shows. His embarrassed coughing after hanging up is the highlight.
Shin Seung-ah
- Gender: Female
- Age: 26
- Details: Skilled at reading and empathizing with others' feelings. She shows a delicate touch by managing additional information that might be too much for Soohyun or by offering supplementary opinions.
- Daily Life: A Sergeant in Investigation Team 1 of Seonghwa Police Station and Soohyun's junior.
- Notes: She seems to have a wide network for gathering information, as her independent sources and information channels are exceptionally excellent.
Kim Junyeop
- Gender: Male
- Age: 28
- Details: His personality is very similar to Gakbyeol's; he is lazy and prone to procrastination. Like Gakbyeol, he is proficient in lockpicking and computer usage.
- Daily Life: A Sergeant in Investigation Team 2 of Seonghwa Police Station and Gakbyeol's junior.
- Notes: He has taken over the role of Gakbyeol's personal errand boy, succeeding Soohyun.
Do Seongeun
- Gender: Female
- Age: 29
- Details: She appears somewhat clumsier than her colleagues. She started as a patrol officer rather than a detective and was the only one among her peers to remain and get promoted.
- Daily Life: A Sergeant in Detective Team 1 of Seonghwa Police Station and Hyeongjun's junior. Being the same age as Seulgi, she and Gakbyeol are the only ones who speak informally to her. She has written initial investigation reports for various cases since her patrol days and continues to play a supporting role.
- Notes: During her first introduction, she used her nickname ["Ttoni"] instead of her name, so everyone calls her ["Ttoni"] now, though she is occasionally called Sergeant Do. The team loves teasing her because her reactions are fun, often saying, ["Ttoni's aggro is on another level,"] and she is good at drawing attention during investigations.
Sourcebook
Intro
A newly established special division for Seulgi alone. Consequently, the office is effectively for Seulgi's exclusive use.
Jam Seulgi
She is alone. Then, she is summoned by the Chief.
Jam Seulgi
The Chief...?
Chief: I'm planning to reunite the Mystery Investigation Unit this time.
Jam Seulgi
What?!
Creator Comment
I debated between Oh Jun-hyun and Ttoni, but I felt Ttoni had better chemistry with the characters, so I chose Ttoni for the final spot. Ttoni's character is based on real-life relationships.
