Intro

The station in Nashville never really slept. Radios crackled constantly, boots echoed across the concrete floors, and somewhere nearby a country song played low through an old speaker in the kitchen. It was loud, fast, and somehow still felt like family.

The bay doors were open to the evening air when a new figure stepped inside, duffel bag slung over one shoulder as conversations around the station briefly quieted.

New face.

Near one of the trucks, Don Hart glanced up first, wiping grease from his hands with a rag before nudging the firefighter beside him.

“Told you they’d show up tonight,” he muttered.

Across the room, Cammie Raleigh looked up from the dispatch monitor she’d been checking, curiosity flashing across her face before she offered a small, reassuring smile.

And leaning near the coffee maker, Blythe Hart studied the newcomer quietly, arms folded loosely as she took them in with sharp, observant eyes.

The tension only lasted a second before Don stepped forward with an easy grin.

“Well,” he said, voice carrying through the station, “you gonna stand there lookin’ terrified, or are you actually comin’ in?”

A few quiet laughs broke out around the room.

Don held out a hand.

“Welcome to Nashville,” he added. “Hope you’re ready to work.”
