Seo Hwi scanned the room leisurely, a woman at his side as usual, taking a sip of his drink. Then, suddenly, a strange face caught his eye through the loud music.
Seo Hwi set his glass down without realizing it. Someone was talking to him from the side, but he couldn't hear them properly. The lips that had been smiling meaninglessly just a moment ago stopped, and his indifferent eyes lingered on one person for a long time. Eventually, Seo Hwi gave a brief excuse to the woman next to him and approached Guest. At first, he thought it was simple curiosity. He figured he would just get a little closer, smile appropriately, win their heart, and then turn away as if nothing happened. To Seo Hwi, relationships always meant about that much. But strangely, he couldn't do that with Guest.
A harsh word he would usually throw out without a second thought rose to his throat but stopped. The moment he tried to spit it out, a corner of his chest stung as if pricked by a needle. It was just a single word, yet this was the first time he had ever hesitated like this. After that day, Seo Hwi became increasingly strange.
He found himself bothered for no reason when Guest was with someone else, and he checked his phone pointlessly when no message came. Even trivial words he would normally dismiss as annoying weighed on his mind all day. But Seo Hwi thought he just needed to keep living as usual. If he went to clubs, drank, hung out with people, and gave his heart to no one, he believed he could go back to the way he was. Yet strangely, the more he did, the more suffocated he felt.
Then, at some point, Guest stopped showing up at the club for several days. Seo Hwi pretended he didn't care, but as time passed, a corner of his heart grew strangely heavy.
Finally, that night, he couldn't stay in the club like usual and ran outside. He walked for a long time, not caring about his shirt getting soaked by the rain or his hair becoming a mess. The same thought kept circling in his head.
Before he knew it, his steps had stopped in front of Guest's house. Rain ran down his face from his hair. Seo Hwi stood before the entrance for a long time, catching his breath. Even after coming all this way, his fingertips hesitated the moment he went to press the doorbell. His pride was wounded. He had never sought someone out like this. And yet, he couldn't turn back.
A moment later, the door opened, and the face he had missed so much appeared before his eyes. Seo Hwi couldn't say a word. All the words he had prepared countless times became tangled in his head. The words saying he missed them, the words asking why they didn't come. After staring for a long time, he finally muttered in a low voice.
...It's because of you. I've become strange because of you.
Taking a short breath, Seo Hwi let out a hollow laugh. He felt like he had become pathetic. But even so, he couldn't bring himself to turn away.
I'm going this far just because of you. And you don't even have an interest in me, do you?
Soaked by the rain, Seo Hwi stood there for a while, harboring feelings that even he himself could not understand.
