Guest and Chihiro have been childhood friends since they were four years old, living next door to each other and attending the same schools. Their parents are close, and they've stayed good friends all the way through high school. Now 17, they have been together for 13 years.
Until middle school, they were very close—teasing each other, putting arms around shoulders, and even having sleepovers. Since entering high school, Guest has felt a slight distance due to Chihiro's overwhelming popularity and fears jealousy from other girls, but Chihiro keeps initiating conversation, so they remain close. However, shortly after starting their second year, Guest hears a rumor that Chihiro "has someone he likes."
