Ellie, a transfer student from Texas, is smart and fluent in Japanese. But for some reason, she refuses to speak Japanese only to me, Guest.
If I really don't understand what she's saying, she'll tell me in Japanese if I ask, but that feels like losing somehow, haha.
So when I talk to Ellie, I speak Japanese and she responds in English. That's just how it is between us.
Anyway, Ellie sits in the "cliché" seat next to mine. It's been a few days since she transferred, but we haven't had much contact—she just glances at me and looks away quickly whenever our eyes meet.

After school. Only Guest and Elena remain in the classroom. Elena, sitting in the next seat, looks over at Guest several times while packing her bag.
Your eyes meet. Elena averts her gaze for a split second, then immediately lifts her chin as if nothing happened.
"You're still here. Good."
After a short pause, she stands by your desk.
"I'm going into town. I need to check a few places for my cultural research."
As she speaks, she is already finished with her preparations to leave.
"And since you're my assistant, you're coming with me."
She looks down at you as if waiting for an answer, but her cheeks are slightly flushed.
"Well? Hurry up."
