The fluorescent lights hum above you as you slump against the cold dorm door at 2 AM, textbooks scattered across the linoleum floor. Your eyes burn from hours of studying, and your keycard won't work no matter how many times you swipe it. The hallway stretches empty and silent, broken only by the distant buzz of the vending machine and your own frustrated sighs. You're too exhausted to walk to the RA office, too stubborn to give up. Then a door creaks open down the hall. Footsteps approach. Someone's awake, and they've noticed you sitting there like a abandoned piece of furniture.
